Studio
The site for our studio is a small cottage, built in 1930 out of Dade County Pine. It is located in an oak hammock with raccoons, opossums, squirrels and many birds. The cottage is charming and has been outfitted by Dave Svetlick, an artist and master craftsman, to be a modern lampworking studio with the latest in safety features, including proper ventilation and lighting, as well as a specially designed octagon-shaped table topped with marble. The shape of the table allows each student that much needed elbow room when pulling those extra-long stringers and Dave built a teak lip to keep those hot pieces of glass from rolling off the table into your lap. The table height is such that you can choose to either sit or stand, but sitting is made very comfortable by the leather upholstered swivel stools, with backs.
The studio at the present time is equipped with eight Nortel Minor Bench Burners safely affixed to the table, as well as a Bethlehem PM2D water-cooled torch and a GTT Cheetah. Two kilns are available for your annealing pleasure.
The cottage has a large kitchen, decorated by Barbara in her own inimitable style, that allows for great cooking to make the beadmaker feel more at home. The refrigerator is always stocked and the kitchen filled with the smell of fresh bread and hot soup during the winter and fresh hot homemade salsa during the summer! There is a large island in the kitchen that gives the space needed for additional projects which we will be doing throughout the year. There is also a guest room with a queen size bed and a full bathroom.
The garden has been replaced with a paverbrick patio and the whimsical colors have been pulled outside, a frog fountain and in progress is the glass and tile patio table.
We hope........ See you soon, Pam and Barb
